The exercise is structured to help participants shift from a disempowering to an empowering mindset, promoting positive self-perception and actions. It includes practical steps and tips, such as using Post-It notes to reinforce positive declarations throughout the day. The content is developed by Kennith Allen Thomas, associated with Unshakeable Coaching & Consulting. Step One: Identifying Fears and Complaints: Clients are encouraged to list their current concerns, fears, and complaints, covering all aspects of their lives. The exercise acknowledges that even seemingly positive aspects can be sources of worry. Step Two: Confronting Negative Self-Judgments: For each item listed in Step One, participants identify harsh, critical labels they might attach to themselves. This step is about recognizing the damaging narratives one might hold. Step Three: Distinguishing Interpretation from Fact: The exercise then guides individuals to assess whether these negative self-judgments are factual or merely interpretations. It introduces techniques like the "Can I get a bowl of this?" test to help discern the difference, highlighting the subjective nature of self-criticism. Step Four: Creating an Empowering Narrative: Having cleared disempowering interpretations, the exercise encourages clients to construct an empowering story or declaration to guide their mindset for the day. This involves choosing a positive quality or value to embody, and envisioning life as a party where they bring this quality to life.
